Welcome to Sylvania
Where rural woodlands and eclectic art meld in harmony
Known as one of Ohio’s best hometowns, the unincorporated township of Sylvania resides northwest of Toledo, less than thirty minutes away and tucked against the Michigan border. With a small population of just under 20,000 residents, this charming suburb of Toledo radiates a small-town vibe. Sylvania is home to niche local businesses, a thriving arts community, and a gorgeous downtown with tree-lined streets and meandering creeks. Far enough off the grid to feel private and calm, yet close enough to the city to enjoy the perks of urban living, Sylvania’s idyllic, wooded suburbia.
The area was established in 1836, and traces of its rich history can be seen in places like the Sylvania Historic Village
at the heart of its historic downtown. It grew during the spread of the railroad throughout Northwestern Ohio. Though the station is no longer in use, the city’s original station building can be found within the Historic Village.
Most residential housing in Sylvania was built in the 1970s or after. Consequently, many properties lean towards very traditional new American styles: sprawling brick ranches, modern abodes with contemporary additions of select glass walls, and attractive townhomes adorned with barn stars. Homes are often sheltered by sublime woodlands or set in friendly cul-de-sacs, making Sylvania a wonderful place for young families and those looking to establish new roots.
